I think curiosity more than anything else. It just felt before that computation is something that is taken for granted or at least not examined in any specific way (unless you are from a specific field i guess). I was hoping that the class would open a discussion on that.
I have been more and more inclined to learn creative coding over the past year and my hope is to be able to continue that journey. I am not so sure how, but my hope is that at some point I will be able to incorporate what I learned here as part of what I do.
In a sense there was nothing lacking so it hard to give an exact answer for this. I suppose, in a sense i felt I was always catching up as the topic felt abstract the first time it was talked about. But it begun to make sense a lecture later. But that seems like a very individual thing.
The only thing I remember is that there was some confusion about the homework when it was assigned. I did enjoy outline a lot and better than google drive.
One of the things I love most about sfpc is a chance to meet a very diverse set of people. This is a tradeoff in a sense, but being online has made this possible. So, I love that aspect. Even in this class, just meeting people with such diverse practices so very fun. Also, i am not sure if it would do it more in class, but am glad there is space to reflect and talk amongst each other. Maybe a chance to do that more outside on a shared project ?
(the weeks may be incorrect)
Week 1. I think i just loved doing and seeing all the paper weaving stuff. It was very cool.
Week 3. I remember struggling here with the idea of what an automata is. At times, it felt it was loosely defined and I was trying to question that idea. Also I was trying to set up an automata and the way the rules were set, i wasnt getting anything interesting.
It was great to see what people brought to class that week and helped clear my doubts a bit.
Week 4. The microscoping activity was amazing. It was so fun being part of that experience. And also learning about moss!
There were times during week 3 during the lecture I felt completely lost. I wasnt exactly following the complexity of what was being explained.
I think I felt great when I was working on something as part of the homework or even my own exploration. Once I was able to code a basic automata, I kept of trying different things and that was fun.
I feel like I have made a connection atleast with the subject overall. I feel like beyond the bigger theory, I can maybe use it in my explorations to come up with interesting visual experiments with type and images.
Also seeing how people have been using it throughout the class was very interesting. I almost feel like it would be great to keep a running document of how people have been using it adding to it, as a form of archive.
Absolutely, like i mentioned before, that is what I love about sfpc classes the most.
Its hard to actually pick, but from work made just for this class:

Though it has been great to see all of their work, and the
Richness they brought to all the discussions.
